Doug Kreuger

Painting - Oil On Hardboard Panel
Description
Once located at the corner of Oak and Kansas streets, the Bierstube was a local landmark in historic downtown Frankfort, IL for over 25 years. It was destroyed by fire on August 8, 2001.
Owned by Karl Ditchler (Chef Klaus) and his family, the Bierstube was a festive restaurant crowed with people sharing good times. It was one of my favorite places to enjoy with family and friends.
I decided to paint "Die Bierstube" as a way of preserving and celebrating its legacy. My focus on details serves as a tribute to the artisans who carved and painted the front entryway doors, the nostalgic shingle-styled signs and the family crests that altogether made the 100-year-old building charming and inviting.

Wow, what a realistic painting! So sad the restaurant is gone now. But this is great work Doug. I am going to look at your other work today as soon as I get a chance.

Doug, this is one of the finest oil paintings I have ever had the pleasure to view. Love the imagery and all the elements are so heartwarming to envision. This is a true masterpiece of art talent and beauty! fave and vote
Doug Kreuger replied:
Randy, Thanks for taking notice of this painting. I can't believe nearly a dozen years have passed since I painted this one! I remember painting it like it was yesterday! Sadly, due to a fire, this restaurant no longer exists in this same location. I'm happy I was able to preserve it's charming legacy in this painting before it was gone forever.
