Description
Near my home in Monee, IL survives the remnants of a small family farm, situated only 50 yards off of a well-traveled highway (Pauling Rd). During the summer months, the farm buildings on this property are mostly hidden from view, blending in with the over-grown landscape. This place would probably go unnoticed and forgotten by passing motorists were it not for a beautiful Sugar Maple displaying its radiant fall foliage in late September through October each year.
When I look at this scene, I imagine a rusty old pick-up truck with rounded-off fenders climbing the dirt path up from a graveled road. I see a tire swing hanging from a sturdy limb, chickens walking in the open yard. And I hear a dog barking welcome home to its owners.
Although I don't know the actual variety name for this maple, the following varieties all fit the feeling of nostalgia I associate with this quiet place each fall: Commemoration, Legacy, Celebration, "October Glory".

Love Rural America and the way you portray it, Doug! I like the addition of the red winged blackbird too.
