Title
Snowman Splendor
Artist
Doug Kreuger
Medium
Digital Art - Chain Saw Carving
Description
I created this snowman sculpture as a Christmas gift for my wife. I carved it with a chain saw from a single ash log; measuring 16" in diameter by 72" in length, and weighing nearly 300 pounds! After carving, I cut it into 4 sections: Hat, Head, Mid-section and bottom. I pinned the removable sections together with 1/2" conduit. After painting, I added stick arms, home-made broom, scarf, carved wooden carrot nose and hand-crafted corncob pipe.
I photographed this image set up in my yard in front of a curtain of Christmas lights. The star sparkles and other enhancements were done in Photoshop.

Okay Doug---I see that you are choosing Olaf for the 'smile' contest. This is a cheerful winter piece---if anyone needs to keep smiling about winter and snow, it should be the snowman---snowperson. :)

Doug---a revisit---and just to say----soon you will not have to mow the grass---you might have to shovel snow according to 'Snowman Splendor'!
Doug Kreuger replied:
Thanks for your encouraging words Nava, though, I would rather mow grass than clear snow. That reminds me, my snow-thrower needs repairing...

Doug--this could 'almost' make me happy about winter coming around the corner! Cute and festive--would make great cards. f/v
Doug Kreuger replied:
Nava Jo, My wife, Debbie, feels the same way… When I gave her this gift, I sent her all over our home in search of the separated pieces—in a predetermined order. It was not until she had found half the parts, that she began to understand what she was getting. Our children still talk about this event every Christmas—nearly 20 years later!
Doug Kreuger replied:
PS: Some time I will show you the apple baskets and pumpkins I carved with a chain saw.
