“Bear Necessities IV” --Digital Oil Painting by Landscape Artist Doug Kreuger
When my son saw my “Bear Necessities III” digital oil painting he asked me if I would consider reworking my original composition so he could have my artwork tattooed on his upper right arm. Touched by my son’s appreciation for my artwork, I enthusiastically said yes!
In this rendition, I repositioned the design elements to fit a two-to-one vertical format. In addition, my son asked that I change my original painting’s friendly looking bear, with a butterfly alit on its nose, to a ferocious-looking animal, baring its teeth.
Being that my son likes bears in general, is a longtime Chicago Bears fan, and even named his first dog “Bear”, this image holds significant meaning to him.
In this scene, a mature brown bear (grizzly bear) is seen standing in a small mountain stream. Bathing? Drinking? ---Or simply trying to catch its next meal? Whatever the reasons,...
Doug Kreuger, Landscape Artist Member of Oil Painters of America Doug was born in, Aberdeen, South Dakota, and grew up in Hazel Crest, Illinois. From early childhood, Doug demonstrated a strong interest in drawing, painting, and building things. Throughout his school years, Doug excelled in all his art classes, winning numerous awards and recognition for his artistic abilities. Upon graduating from high school, Doug became a student at The American Academy of Art, Chicago, where he studied commercial graphics, life drawing and watercolors.
