Description
"Austin Autumn"
Situated alongside the Colorado River, the largest river in Texas (no connection to the Grand Canyon Colorado River) stands the city of Austin, the capital of Texas, and the 11th largest city in the USA.
I visited Austin, Texas in October 2012 and like most people who live in Austin, I fell in love with Zilker Metropolitan Park---considered by many to be Austin's "400-acre Crown Jewel". This diverse recreational area features botanical gardens, walking & biking trails, Barton Creek, Barton Springs Pool and Lady Bird Lake (formerly Town Lake).
Lady Bird Lake is a reservoir on the Colorado River in Downtown Austin, Texas. Renamed in honor of Lady Bird Johnson, the former First Lady of the United States and a long-time resident of the Austin.
The view in "An Austin Autumn" is looking eastward from Rock Island inside Zilker Park where the Barton Creek flows into Lady Bird Lake. Prominently in the foreground is a pair of graceful white swans heading towards the mouth of Barton Creek.
My inspiration for creating "An Austin Autumn" is the natural and manmade beauty of this area (listed in the National Register of Historical Places 1997) and the magnificent view of Austin's city skyline seen on the far shore of Lady Bird Lake.
