Description
Al Johnson's Restaurant, Sister Bay, Wisconsin, is one of my favorite Door County stops...famous for Swedish Pancakes, Swedish Meatballs and Roof-Top-Dining---goats only.
Owned by Al and Ingert Johnson, this restaurant has been delighting guests with old-world-charm for more than half a century.
I was especially fascinated to discover that this restaurant was actually built in Sweden, brought over on a boat, then reassembled on its present site. Its elaborately carved shutters, ornate corner posts, and grass-covered roof add distinctive character to this unique chalet.
I decided to paint "Up On The Roof" as a way of celebrating and preserving this restaurant's continuing success. My attention to details serves as a tribute to the Swedish artisans who's combined talents help to make Al Johnson's all the more wonderful and enjoyable.

Doug, hope this finds you healing and getting better each day. I haven't forgotten about you, but going through some health issues myself, so not as active as I used to be. Hope you are getting better each and every day. It is an honor and privilege for me, your administrator of our family of friends and fine artists in the Wisconsin Flowers and Scenery, to special feature some of your earlier works, submitted since our inception as a highly active group within the FAA family. So, I decided to give special recognition to these long time members for their time invested in making our family of friends and fine artists a family that many artists are proud to be members of. Thanks for all you do for our group to build one of the top groups in the top 1% of highly active groups on FAA. Thank you for being a member of WFS group and for your activity within.

Doug----my second visit to this fun and colorful painting---! It is a fave---and took another vote. lvf
Doug Kreuger replied:
Thanks again Nava Jo! This family landmark is still thriving! I wish I could say the same for the two sisters (my Aunt Phyllis and my mother) pictured in dark clothing at center. My Aunt (left) has since passed and my mother (right) is having difficulty walking.
