An original oil painting by Doug Kreuger, painted from reference photos obtained while attending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Consider by many to be the fastest of rodeo events, Steer wrestling requires speed, agility and strength to pull down fully-grown steers in live rodeo competition.
I first became interested in cowboy sports--as a spectator--while attending a small-town rodeo in Central Illinois. I have since graduated to the much larger arena of Rodeo Houston.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a charity, organized to benefit the youth of Texas, support education, and facilitate better agricultural practices through exhibitions and presentation.
Since its beginning in 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has distributed more than $400 million to youth scholarships, research, endowments, junior show exhibitors, and other educational youth programs.
While not everyone enjoys seeing livestock animals used in rodeo events, no one should overlook the many benefits that are obtained for young people and animal/livestock husbandry.
