Description
Fall is apple-time in Door County, Wisconsin. Throughout the Peninsula, roadside farm stands are filled with the harvested fruit. Visitors travel from allover to load their trunks with this bounty, while enjoying an annual tradition.
Heading north on scenic Highway 42, from Egg Harbor to Fish Creek, suddenly a big red barn comes into view, towering above a small roadside stand. This is Hilltop Orchard's apple stand, owned by the Kitas.
When I first encountered this charming little apple stand, I felt drawn by its presence. It seemed to invite me to stop and take a closer look. The large, old barn standing majestically behind it reminds me of a parent proudly watching over his offspring.
I decided to paint "Red Delicious" to show my appreciation for farmers and apple-growers, the fruits of whose hard labor extols the very essence of Fall.

Wow Doug. You have out done yourself in this wonderful painting. It looks like a photo. I can't believe all the details. You are very talented.
Doug Kreuger replied:
Thank you very much Bobbie! This painting does, indeed, have a lot of detail. The fact that it looks like a photo, is largely due to this 54" wide original painting being viewed at only 6" wide. ((-:

Doug---I hope that by the time I am back in Door County---this is back to being an Apple Barn---as it should be. This took another vote :) lv
Doug Kreuger replied:
Thanks Nava Jo! Sadly, this barn has fallen on hard times, the old milk can & mailbox is gone, so is the gentleman standing in front of the apple stand. Thankfully I preserved it in its hay day.
