Wow, looks like Hollyhocks bring back memories of good ole days for most people......And these are Beautiful, Wonderful artwork to go with.....v./f.

Doug Kreuger replied:

Thanks Beverly! Yes, hollyhocks have bee around for a very long time, and remain a childhood favorite for many grownups. I don't recall ever getting in trouble for picking these flowers—Not the same for the neighbors' roses and other exotics. (-:

I love holly hocks ... this is a sunshiny beauty!! Your lovely art really takes me back in time ... we used to stick the unopened blossoms to the full blossoms, stem shank to stem shank, with old fashioned hat pinks and create dancing ladies!!!

Doug Kreuger replied:

Thank you Lois! You are very kind… I will try showing my young granddaughters how to make your "dancing ladies".

I adore hollyhocks. They remind me of the summer days of my childhood when my sisters and I and our neighborhood friends would pluck the blossoms and pretend they were dancing ladies in wide skirts. We floated them on pans of water and swirled the water so they would turn and bend. If I remember right, we also picked the buds, peeled them, and ate the insides. Would that have made us deathly ill? If so, I am obviously misremembering :) I like your choice of fence boards as a background, too. the contrast in tones and textures works well.

Doug Kreuger replied:

Ellen, Thank you for sharing your childhood memory. I have heard hollyhocks are completely edible, right done to their roots! Though I have never eaten any myself, you are living proof… (-:

Doug---I enjoyed your childhood memories about the Holleyhocks---and mine are almost the same. Just remember they were on the east side of my greandmother's house---I would look up and watch the bees swarm around them. I have love them since that time-----however, I am now allergic to bees. These are beautiful---and thanks for sharing. :) LVF

Doug Kreuger replied:

Nava Jo, Thanks for being the first, again, to comment on my newest artwork! I'm glad it connected you with thoughts of your Grandmother's house. Thanks for your thoughtful comment.
