View: Looking west from Lake Michigan, Chicago Harbor at Navy Pier, as an Autumn setting sun casts a warm glow over the City, painting the skyline in welcoming tones Orange & Gold.
Navy Pier boasts the reputation for being Chicago's Number 1 Tourist Attraction. This pier stretches 3,300 feet from the shoreline of Lake Michigan into Chicago Harbor at the mouth of the Chicago River.
Construction began in 1914, as a shipping and entertainment facility, named Municipal Pier, and served as a temporary home for military personnel through World Wars 1 and 2. In 1927 it was renamed Navy Pier in honor of Navy veterans.
Today, Navy Pier plays host to many temporary and permanent attractions, Including: a 15-story-high Ferris Wheel, Theaters, Tall Ships Festival, Stained Glass Windows Museum, Children's Museum, Chicago Sports Museum, Dinner Cruises, Exhibit Halls, Restaurants, Shopping Mall, Hotel and Grand Ballroom.
