Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
My inspiration for painting "Crimson Canopy" began with a photograph taken by a family friend, Clarence Wong, as he vacationed on the Island of Crete.
At first glance, you notice a crimson canopy of bright red Bougainvillea and patches of sunlight playing against the deep, cool shadows of the lush ivy and trees in this courtyard haven.
Take a closer look and you will find a pair of Prothonotary Warblers. The male bird is perched high in a tree, singing his song in an attempt to attract the attention of the female bird that is foraging the courtyard floor. If the serenade is successful, the cycle of life will continue under this cool, lush crimson canopy.

I am always drawn to this remarkable painting, Doug! I just love how you painted the warm shadows near the sunlight and blended into the cool shadows. The sunlight reflected in the shaded arch is excellent! The red flower focal point is magical! Genius composition! L/F
